LOOK AND LIVE MINISTRIES CLG

"One Look Will Deliver You"

THE GREAT COMMISSION

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.  Matthew 28:19-20

As Jesus now gets ready to go back to His Father, He gives instructions to his Disciples as to what they should do after He is gone. He gives them this "Great Commission" of going. Why would Jesus leave this command? He wanted them to know that even though he was going back to his Father and would not be walking among them anymore on earth, they must continue the work of making more disciples for His kingdom. Look at what He says in Mark, “Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me; or else believe me for the very works’ sake. Verily, verily, I say unto you, He who believes on me, the works that I do shall he do also and greater works than these shall he do; because I go to the Father.” (John 14:11-12)

What are the greater works?  It was not greater power, but it is those who would be saved by preaching of the gospel of Jesus Christ. What Jesus was saying was He would no longer be with them on earth because he was returning to his Father, “therefore continue my work here on earth and make more disciples of men.” Jesus was only here for 33 years, of which only 3 years was devoted to ministry.  In His time on earth, He healed, delivered, cast out devils, forgave sin and most of all preached the gospel, but now He has gone back to His Father and He says I leave you to carry on my work.

On the day of Pentecost as the outpouring of the Holy Ghost felled and those who were in Jerusalem stood there witnessing what was taking place; Peter stands up and began to preach Jesus to them and the bible says that “three thousand souls were added to the church on that day”. (Acts 2:9) This is the greater works that He was talking about, that through the preaching of the gospel more and more people will become saved, because He has left us here to the "Greater Works".

The Great Commission is a command that we must follow if we are to do those "Greater Works". This command is for every believer to follow and obey.  Some Christians would say that witnessing is just for the preacher or the evangelist or pastor of the church, but Jesus did not make any distinctions in this verse. If you are a born-again believer then you are a disciple of Jesus Christ, therefore you must obey what He says. These verses of scriptures make it as clear as to what God will have for us as believers to do.

These scripture verses list four things that Jesus is requiring of us.

First

Go ye therefore

And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. (Mark 16:15)

Second

Teach all nations

Teach “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 6:23)

Third

Baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost

Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. (Romans 6:4)

Fourth

Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you.

But this thing commanded I them, saying, Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people: and walk ye in all the ways that I commanded you, that it may be well unto you. (Jeremiah 7:23)

Last

He encourages us "and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen." In obeying God, God will reward you for your obedience to Him.
